TEMPLATES- Patterned guides used to create different shapes, like stars, hearts, circles. Also some are guides for whole pages where you can use your own papers and textures and create a page of your own.

BEADS - Jewelry strings in different shapes as pearls, balls, crystals, etc. all threaded together to embellish your creations. They can be in straight lines, or curved.

PAGE KIT - Complete kits including papers, elements, and everything you need to work on your own creations. The papers usually come in JPG format and the elements in png format.

MINI KITS - Small kits including some papers and elements, but not as much as a complete kit. They are often come as add - ons to complete page kits that are complimentary, but can be used alone, it depends on your creativity.

ELEMENTS/EMBELLISHMENTS - Any embellishment used to decorate your page. They come in different sizes and shapes. They can be buttons, bows, strings, lace, flowers, pins, doodles, corners, frames, etc. They usually come in png format.

ALPHABET SET (ALPHA) - Alphabet sets are used in journaling or titles for your creation. They are pieces of art that are complimentary to a specific design or page kit. They are not fonts, and you work with them as you work with the elements. Usually come in png format.

WORD ART - Quotes or phrases already done to embellish your creation. They can be from famous authors or your own. Usually in color black or any color that matches with the kit. Usually in png format.

LAYOUT (LO) - This is the arrangement of photos, elements, journaling, title, background, and everything you want to use to make your own page. Usually in JPG format.

JOURNALING - An important element in your LO to preserve memories. This includes date, names, special occasion, etc. This is the basic information you want to remember about the pictures included.

DESIGNERS - Talented persons who create digital page kits collections, papers, alphas, elements, quick pages, overlays, textures, templates, etc. that allow you to work and create your own LO

OVERLAY - Patterned layer used to laid over another layer to make a new texture or pattern. It comes in black, white, or transparent. For example, you are designing a paper and have a plain color. You add an overlay of flowers (example, but the possibilities are huge) and you finally have a flowered paper of a specific color. Overlays are very useful for making your own papers or backgrounds. Comes in png format.

TEXTURES - This is a grayscale image with contrast that appears a specific texture. It is laid over another layer and you have a new texture of a specific color and dimension. There are many textures like wood, grunge, rock, clouds, ropes, waves, etc.

QUICK PAGES (QP) – These are complete pages already done for you, so the only thing you have to add are the photos, any journaling and you have a complete LO. Usually in png format.

DIGITAL SCRAPBOOKING – Same as paper scrapbooking, but digitally. You may use different programs as Photoshop, paint shop pro, Digital Images, and digital cameras for your photos. The best advantage: You can resize, no paper or glue mess, and you can un-do or re-do as many times you want it.

FRAMES – Elements or embellishments specifically for your photos. They can be in any shape or size, with textures, regular or irregular. They give your photos a different touch to enhance them. Usually in png format.

DIGITAL COLLAGE – This is the process where you paste together different images into a cohesive whole, having at the end a new image full of different ones.

FREEBIE – These are kits, mini kits, templates, papers, elements, etc that are given for free. They are used often to promote games, bigger kits, or to let you know the designer.

CROP – This is when you cut away excess from your photos or papers, to focus on the persons or things you want to enhance. The great advantage in digital cropping is you can resize or cut, use it for your LO and then undo the changes to keep the original picture or paper.

BACKGROUND PAPER - This is the paper that is the base or foundation of your LO. You work on it adding the photos, elements, and all the embellishments to it. Regularly it is the bottom layer.

TERMS OF USE (TOU) - These are the terms and conditions from the designer in his or her usage of the product you buy or get free. It’s a legal control and we must follow it.

SCANNED IMAGE - This is an image, usually photos, that is processed by a computer scanner to create a digital file. It can be in jpg, bmp, or tiff format.

CREATIVE TEAM (CT) - individuals who are recruited buy designers to use their product and show it off to all the people they know. For example DAC's Café Lattes and Cappuccinos.

B.O.M. (BOM) - Book of Me - A book about you (me) and your life. Your likes and dislikes, things you do in a typical day etc... Totally about you, something most of us forget to scrap!! Also known as an "All About Me" Album.

RULE OF 3 - Placing 3, or an odd number of pictures or embellishments on a layout. Most brains prefer groups of odd numbers, they look for things to be tied together.

WHITE/EMPTY SPACE - the space not used on a layout, this empty or white space allows you to focus on the important parts of the layout and to rest. Resist the need to fill every spot.

Z-FLOW - To layout a page that flows normally from left to right, then down and left to right again, not literally, but figuratively. It is pleasing to the eye, as children we are taught to read left to right our eyes move that way. This follows that concept.

GALLON/QUART/PINT - The act of assigning a size to you colors. the most predominant color is gallon or large the next is quart or medium and the accent color is pint or small.

MONOCHROMATIC COLOR SCHEME - using different shades of a single color on a layout, baby blue navy blue and royal blue.

ONLINE CROP - a group of croppers getting together thru a chat room online, if organized there may be contests, bonuses, and/or games. otherwise lots of chatting, scrapping, sharing techniques, ideas, etc...

C.A.S.E. - (Copy and steal everything) aka scraplift - to see a layout and be so inspired that you do a layout either exactly or very similar in nature. It is very good form to give credit to inspiring layout

DIGITAL PIRACY - the unauthorized distribution or altering of another's creation. If you didn't make it from scratch, it's not your to redesign or redistribute. The passing on of freebies is also piracy, send them to the site to download their own.

DESIGN TEAM (DT) - The wonderful artist that create all the great kits and embellishments and quick pages that we use for digital scrapbooking.

CHALLENGE - When a moderator posts in the forum that they challenge all to do something specific, sometimes posting bonuses are given for particapation, but not always.

CIRCLE JOURNAL - a scrapbook made by at least 2 people. Each person starts with their own book and sends it to friend by mail for each participant who does a 1 or 2 page LO in the book then sends it to the next person by mail. There are usually themes to circle journals but not always.

RULE OF THIRDS - a design principle dividing a layout or photo into a tic-tac-toe board. The point of the lines is to keep main items at the intersecting lines which makes for great composition.

CLUSTER – A cluster is when you have several items put together resulting in a cluster

FONT - There are various types of fonts that can be used to make your titles and to do your journaling.  Explore your opportunities and don't be afraid to use more then one on the same LO

GRAB BAG - A Grab Bag is usually offered by a designer.  The grab bag can contain a few items to full kits or Commercial Use items. You can also get a grab bag at a cheaper price then if you would have bought all the items seperatly.

COMMERCIAL USE (CU) - Commercial Use items are marked by the designer as being allowed to use the specific item for making items for free or for sell for other people.  Please refer to the individual designers TOU for specifics please.

BLENDING – Blending is a great tool, when you blend a photo or item into the paper it looks as if the blended item was already made a part of that item.  You can change the opacity of the blending as well.

CHARMS – can be most any item made to hang or dangle off something, usually made of metal (silver, pewter or gold) however can be of different colors, as well.

BRADS – Similar to typical office supplies such as split pins but are found in many different sizes, shapes and colours. Very commonly used for an embellishment.

BRAG BOOK - A scrapbook or photo album devoted to specific people or events that be kept for yourself or shared with others.. It is on a smaller scale of a full size album.

ALBUMS - This is where you would keep all your printed LO’s or paper LO’s for yourself or to give as a gift

ALTERED/ALTER/ALTERATION – Altering something is when you change it from the original form you received it in; for example, you change the shape, colour or texture

CLIP-ART - Art purchased in a book or software that can be applied to digital scrap booking pages.

EXTRACTION - an extraction is when you take a piece of something away, or when you make your photo appear to be coming out of the frame or some other item of choice.

GEM - a single piece of jewlery made of a precious stone. they can have a border or not, gems can be used as an element for your LO

HERITAGE - refers to something which is inherited from one's ancestors.. This can be your bloodline, photos, memorabilia, folktales etc...

QUOTES – These can be used to add a special thought or saying to your LO. You can find quotes all over the internet. These can also be found made into word art

SCRAPLIFT – This is where you make a LO following an already finished LO for example.  You can either copy it exactly or use it for your inspiration and make a LO on your idea of the already finished LO. When you scraplift, credit to the “copied” LO should be given.

ZIPPERS – Just like a regular zipper on a jacket or pants, this zipper is digitally made and can be used as an embellishment on your LO. There are many things that can be done with a zipper. You will have to play around and see what you like.

SHADOW - The amount of shadow in a picture (less for a darker finishincrease for brighter – like a flash) It will help give your items a realistic look and some awesome layered looks

MIDTONES- Increase/Decrease to affect the amount of light in the picture.

HIGHLIGHTS - Increasing really brightens the white balance and can help make colors pop.

CONTRAST - Use this to increase/decrease the contrast between light and dark
